Amanda and Kyle Gatlin Pour Me Some Coffee Bloggers

The Idea behind the “Pour me some coffee” Blog

A note about why the world needs another coffee blog when there are already so many good coffee blogs out there. The simple answer is I love coffee – a lot. I love talking about coffee, so why not a blog? I did not use to like coffee – at all. I remember the coffee that was served at Boy Scout camp that the adults would drink – it was bitter and tasted awful. I am pretty certain it was Foldger’s ground coffee from a can. I remember attending other adult functions as a kid, and it all tasted about the same. Whatever we want to call what was served at those functions was definitely not inspiring. My passion for coffee really got its start in a couple of cafes I hung out in (and eventually worked in) during my college days. That is where I discovered how good coffee could really taste. It is also where I discovered my love for sitting in cafes, writing, visiting with friends all the while enjoying really good coffee and espresso.

While I can claim my passion for coffee was all developed on my own, I cannot actually take credit for moving that passion over into a blog. The credit is actually due to my wife who suggested I move my thoughts and conversations to a blog. My wife already runs the successful food blog Sweetie Pie and Cupcakes among several others. Every morning, Mandy would watch the care I was putting into making my own coffee at home before I headed off to work. One day, she just said, “For as much as you talk about coffee, you should start a blog about it already!” So here we are.

Mandy offered to do all the technical work including filming short videos, curating and posting the content, and promoting the coffee blog since she was already doing this for her other blogs. With some gentle encouragement from a good friend, Miss Claremont (check out Rosemary’s blog all about Claremont! It’s really good), what the hell, I am making the coffee already, why not write about it?.

One further note on why another coffee blog – I am not finding answers to some of my coffee making questions. People are just not writing about certain subjects that I find interesting in the coffee making world, so I am going to explore those areas and write about them here. I want to make good coffee accessible to everybody including the process of how to brew it. Making good coffee should not be the exclusive purview of specialty roasters and fancy cafes. If you have the desire to make your own great tasting coffee at home, you will find the answers here on this blog. I hope to write about things in the coffee world that you will not find anywhere else and explore those areas in depth.

Cheers!
